ACR Had a major set back when it was informed that the series in which their ACR SR-1 BD was to compete had been put on hold until further notice.

In light of this set back Alan Currall owner of ACR took the decision to continue with the development of the car until a series was found for the car to compete in. Alan was sure that something would come along due to the fact that the green issue is currently at the forefront of the motorsport world.

Within a week of the set back Alan had managed to negotiate a place in an alternative series. This series decided to allow the ACR car with two conditions, firstly the engine: it must be an approved homologated engine, secondly the car starts at the back of the grid regardless of the cars qualifying times. Both of these conditions suited Alan, as it would allow continual R&D of the car.

The biggest issue of the two was that the only Diesel engine option that was allowed to compete within the series was hugely under horse powered, it was subsequently agreed with ACR & race series organisers that due to the fact that ACR car would not accumulate any race points so as the car was not directly competing with the petrol powered cars, that a non homologated turbo would be allowed. This decision was great news for ACR boss Alan Currall who said "I'm more than happy with this because future diesel cars using ours as an example would typically only be allowed to run the same homologated engine with the same modification in this series".

There is another reason why the ACR car is being allowed to run in this series and that is, the series organizers are looking into having an alternative fuels class in the near the future and ACR plan to be leading the way, they also hope to be a major manufacturer of diesel powered cars for this series.

These initial discussions with the series organisers about ACR's future plans have proved very positive and point towards ACR being not only a major manufacturer but also a consultant to the organisers of the series.

Even though the SR-1 BD will be the first car from ACR to be completed and to compete, it is actually, the second car designed by Alan Currall, who In conjunction with Mark Amenda based in America had totally designed the first car and had it ready for mock-up, to the point that a partial mock-up chassis was built.

The reason Mark was involved from such an early stage was because Alan has never solely looked at the European market for selling his cars. Mark in his role as an SCCA tech inspector has had a huge input with regards to the designs for both cars so as they could compete in the U.S. and Mark will also head-up the American division.

Alan, while having the first cars chassis mocked-up felt that as a new company with a new car that he should enter the market place with something a little more in keeping with the regular appearance of other cars out there. So Alan started again with another blank piece of paper to design an entirely new car and the ACR SR-1 BD is the result.

Even the ACR SR-1 BD has been on the computer for just over a year due to Alan having other motorsport business interests taking up most of his time finances and efforts. After a particularly difficult year Alan made a decision to move on and start a fresh.

Alan is now in a position to dedicate the time and efforts required to the SR-1 BD project.
